Missions Month

Missions Month

November is Missions Month at Blue Ridge Christian School!  Missions Month is a long-standing tradition for our school. This year, we are excited to celebrate Missions Month in two special ways.

First, we are again participating in the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child Shoebox program.  Every year since 2005, BRCS has joined this international missions effort to minister to underprivileged children across the world.  Packing a shoebox with practical items and toys blesses not only recipients but also givers. Our students gain a deeper appreciation for the many material blessings they have.  They participate, in a very tangible way, in bringing the Gospel to all the nations (Mark 16:15).

At the Lower School, we will collect BRCS shoeboxes at chapel on November 20, during the OCC National Collection Week.  Each week before then, in our classes and in chapel, we will pray for the children who will receive our shoeboxes. At the Upper School, students shoebox packing parties.  Then in December, our 8th graders will travel to the OCC Processing Center in Columbia, MD to work alongside hundreds of other volunteers. We’re grateful that the Lord has provided this opportunity, since 2008, for our 8th graders to represent BRCS through their service.

Packing shoeboxes as a family is a wonderful tradition, and we invite to take part.  Check out the OCC website here, for more information, including several videos and other materials.  We watched this video in chapel this week – please take a moment to rewatch it with your children, as it’s an incredible testimony to the lasting power of the OCC ministry.

Second, this Thanksgiving week, a group of high school students and their parents, led by Mrs. Chrissy Lopez-Cotaina, will serve in Costa Rica.  The team will build a home for a local family and minister through VBS at the local church. At the Lower School, we are supporting the team as “senders”.  Each class has adopted a team member and will pray for them throughout the month. We are also encouraging students to bring in their coins to contribute toward purchasing groceries and decor for the family’s new home.  All donations must be given by Friday, November 22nd.

Thank you in advance for supporting these two important missions efforts!  We are eager to see how our students’ hearts and minds will be impacted this month as they help fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20).
