Parent University

Parent University was launched in the fall of 2017 as a service to our families and to others in the community.  All are welcome!

Tuesday, April 17th, 6:30pm

For April, School Library Month, Parent University is taking an excursion into the land of literature. Join Karen Shomo, Head of School, and Vanessa Manson, Library Media Specialist, in a discussion about cultivating a love of reading in our school and homes. They will share books and book-finding resources for readers of all ages. This free workshop will take place in the Bridgewater Campus Library.

On May 22nd, Lisa Updike will be presenting on Family Worship.  More details coming soon…

Prior Sessions 2017-18

“Virginia 529: Saving on Tuition Costs”      February 13th, 2018

Join us at our next Parent University to learn how recent tax law changes can help you save on tuition costs.

“iPhones and Idols:  Keeping Tech in Check”       January 9th, 2018

A slew of articles over recent months suggests a growing awareness that many of us are suffering ill-effects from our digital devices.  Part II of our Parent University “iPhones and Idols” series shifts from diagnosis of our digitally induced doldrums to hopeful cures.  This session will focus on practical strategies to keep “tech in check”.

“iPhones and Idols:  Spiritual Formation in a Digital Age”       November 14th, 2017

According to Barna, nearly 80% of parents believe it is more difficult to raise children today than when they were kids. What tops the list of the most difficult challenges for parents?  Technology and social media.  In a world where cell phones are more common than indoor plumbing, today’s parents are wrestling with many pressing technology-related questions without the benefit of accumulated wisdom from those who have navigated such challenges before them.

(Future session topics will be forthcoming on this site.)

Sessions are held at the site of our new high school (beginning fall, 2018)

Note: the April 17th session will be held at the Bridgewater Campus Library
