Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! We hope your Christmas break was filled with wonderful memories with family and friends as you celebrated Christ’s birth. We’ve had a great first week of January here at BRCS. Despite the freezing temperatures, your children have come to school with warm smiles and sweet spirits. We praise God every day for efficient boilers that keep our building warm and comfortable.
The new year is a time for reflection. We look back at 2017 and look ahead to all the possibilities that 2018 holds. At this week’s K-8 chapel, Pastor Michael Miller from Crosslink Community Church spoke with our students about how to develop a Biblically-based vision for their lives. He shared several tangible analogies to help students grasp the centrality of the Bible in a Christ-follower’s life. Which of these images resonates most for you?

The Bible is a...

Candle/Light:  Psalm 119:105 – Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
Map:  Psalm 119:133 – Establish my footsteps in Your word, And do not let any iniquity have dominion over me.
Compass:  John 5:39 – You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me.
Magnifying glass:  Psalm 138:2b – For You have magnified Your word according to all Your name.
Binoculars:  Luke 21:36 (NIV) – “Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”
Level:  Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Sword:  Ephesians 6:17 – Take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Shield:  Ephesians 6:16:  Above all, take the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all of the fiery darts of the wicked one.
Treasure Chest:  Matthew 6:21:  “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
I encourage you to talk with your children about these images. Ask them to claim one as their own for 2018 and to commit to deeper personal study of the Word. Let’s expect that our great God will do life-changing work in our children this year as they seek His scriptural truth. We are eager to see what 2018 has in store for our children, our families and our school. Pray boldly with the faculty and staff for His will to be done here at BRCS, for His glory.
Blessings,
Mrs. Shomo
